AI as Your Practical Work Assistant

Everything you need to deliver this session without having presented it before. You do not need to be an AI expert. You need to be comfortable in front of a room and willing to rehearse once. Everything on the slides is pre-built. There is no live typing and nothing that can fail in front of an audience.

What you are actually arguing

It is not “AI is here, better learn it.” Everybody has heard that. The argument is narrower and more useful. Nearly everyone who has touched one of these tools has used it to write something faster — an email, a job posting, a letter to a customer. That is real. It is also the cheapest thing it does.

Almost nobody uses it to think: to work out why the same order keeps going short, why one builder’s jobs keep losing money, what to ask a vendor before signing. That gap is where the money is, and closing it takes no software and no IT project.

That is the whole session. The frameworks are just how you get there. If it helps to know where this comes from: the approach came out of a deployment where one executive, properly equipped, produced roughly $650,000 in measurable business value in eight months. Not a software rollout — one person using it on work that mattered.

The one thing to get right. Slide 11, Same tool, different question, is the most important slide in the deck. It is the argument; everything else is mechanics. Do not let time pressure squeeze it. Cut a worked example instead.

Before you present

About twenty minutes of reading plus a fifteen-minute rehearsal. Tick these off as you go.

    Fifteen-minute rehearsal

This is enough. You do not need to memorize anything.

If you want to run it live instead

Live typing is more compelling when it works and costly when it does not. If you choose to do it: open the tool and sign in beforehand, have the prompt copied and ready to paste, and keep the pre-built slide up as your fallback. If the answer comes back thin or strange, say so and move on — that is honest and it makes the point about reviewing output. Do not spend more than ninety seconds recovering.

      Pick your examples

The deck ships with three examples in the main flow and three alternates in the appendix. Use the three that match the seats in front of you. Swapping just means jumping to an appendix slide instead of the built-in one. Your pick is marked in the slide list below.

The workbook contains all six examples in full, so nobody misses the ones you skip. Tell the room that — it takes the pressure off your selection.

      Run sheet

Times are cumulative from the moment you start. Start the clock when you welcome the room and the current block stays highlighted, with how far ahead or behind you are running.

      Slide by slide

Quoted lines in blue are suggested wording. Everything else is direction. These notes are also embedded in the .pptx under each slide, visible in Presenter View.

      Questions they actually ask

Answer these straight and do not oversell.

      If something goes wrong

None of these ends the session. Most of them help it.

      What comes next

Attendees will ask what happens after this hour.

Session 1 — the desksTeaches the method. This session.
Session 2 — the same room, with laptopsEveryone builds one real prompt for a task they actually do, checks it, and saves it. Best run within a few weeks of this one, while the method is fresh.
Session 3 — owner or GM plus point peopleFive decisions and a ninety-day plan. Needs about sixty days of real usage behind it, because it runs on an honest audit of what stuck.
Before you close, ask each department to start thinking about a point person — the one who keeps the prompts and answers questions, about two hours a month, not a title. Do not force a name today. Session 3 is where that gets decided properly.
